On October 10th 2012, Emma Garrett asked me to give a little talk and run some bite sized meditation sessions at Kiosk at The Park at Russell Park, Bedford for the ‘Tea and Talk’ – fundraising for World Mental Health Day.
We called it ‘My Breathing Space’ and we ran two sessions during the morning.
The idea behind it is, that you only need a couple of minutes to stop whatever it is that you are doing and hit the pause button to relax for some much needed breathing space.
We sat on straw bales covered with blankets. Very comfortable indeed and enjoyed home-made cakes and fresh coffee – every little helps!
Both times, I led a short structured meditation session which needs to be experienced to appreciate its simplicity and therapeutic effects. The practice allows our bodies, breath and minds to slowly unwind and settle so that we can rest in the present moment and feel relaxed and refreshed as a result.
What I was not expecting was that folks who had never tried anything like this before would take to it so easily and happily, like ducks to water, in fact!
So, thank you to Emma for inviting me and thank you to all those that so willingly gave it a go and to those that have experienced the wonderful benefits of meditation before and were reminded of what they had been missing.
